Vikings travel to Åsane for two games and leave with two wins!
The first game up on Saturday, September 1st was between the two clubs U 15 programs. This was an offensive battle and a shootout on the score board. The Vikings came up on the winning side 45-29, but this game could have gone either way. The Seahawks came out firing , putting 16 points on the board in the first half. The home team took a 16-12 lead into halftime. Åsane has a very athletic quarterback who was a handful to contain. He was running around, through and by almost every Vikings defender.
With the first half in the books. The Vikings began to calm down and play some quality football on both sides of the ball. The defense turned things around and settled into the game. Some of the notable standouts on defense were : Peter Cappelen, Penuel Dahlen and Simen Wendelborg. These three players were leading the way with their sure tackles and disruptive play all game long! The rest of the defensive players began to feed off that energy and help pave the way for the victory.
On the Offensive side of the ball, Peder Hellesylt carried the way with multiple long touchdown runs to keep the Vikings in the game. He was not the only one who contributed to the teams scoring. Peter Cappelen, Fredrik Westvang and Olaf Lindvik Halvorsen all got in on the scoring.
It was a tough day for the air attack but that is somewhat expected for the first game of the season. Quarterback Davis Saunders did march down the field with multiple completions to receivers: Edvin Kielland, Filip Jensen and Philip Thillesen.
Up front with the offensive and defensive lines. All the boys put in a great hard fought effort to help the team come out on top.
On offensive line: Omar Khan, Sander Kråkmo and Victor Flatland made some nice holes for the running backs.
On the defensive line: Jørgen Finsæther, Casper Mellbye, Felix Bjørnebye made it known they would not be pushed around.
For most of these players and many more, it was their very first ever American football game. The kids learned a lot and had a blast out there and that is what it is all about!
With the Second game of the day being between the two clubs U 19 programs. It was a short lived match. Unfortunately the Åsane team did not have enough players to continue after the first quarter of play. The Vikings built up a 28-0 lead after one quarter and that turned out to be the final score.
On behalf of the entire Oslo Vikings community we would like to thank the Åsane Seahawks for streaming the two games. It was very much appreciated by the parents back in Oslo!
